Choosing Your Milwaukee Photographer

Choosing Your Milwaukee Photographer

Choosing your Milwaukee family, maternity, newborn, cake smash, or senior photographer is a big decision. With quite a selection of photographers in Milwaukee, Racine, Waukesha, and Ozaukee Counties there are a lot of things to think about before booking yours. Professionalism, experience, quality, price point, style, and location are a few to name.

Professionalism

Of course, professionalism is huge when deciding on a photographer. Putting trust in your MilwaukeeWaukeshaRacine, or Ozaukee photographer that they are following all safety protocols especially when working with children is very important. Posing client’s during location sessions and making sure their children aren’t in danger or too close to a road is top priority. My clients can also rest assured, I am also fully insured. Sadly many photographers in Southeastern Wisconsin are not.

Experience

Years of experience is a good way to determine the professionalism and quality of your Milwaukee photographer. I have been in business, photographing my beautiful client’s for over 14 years! Not only did I fall in love with photography in high school, I went on to college to learn about lighting techniques and digital tools I use in my photography today. Having an experienced photographer is very important. Knowing your photographer can pivot during the session if something goes wrong so your photography session goes smoothly will make for much less stressful session! I have experienced so many different non-ideal instances from over the years, I know how to handle it all! From worried older siblings, lighting malfunctions, and editing composite images to create a perfect shot is something all second nature to me. For more visit, my About Me page!

Client experience is another big factor with scheduling your photography session. I have my client’s come to my studio for viewing their full size images on my TV! Scrolling through your tiny phone screen is a disadvantage to getting the full effect on the beautiful details within your shots. Client’s will also have my full undivided attention and help and answer any questions about products or images right at their viewing appointment.

Quality

Of course quality is another big topic to discuss when choosing your Milwaukee photographer. Looking over a photographer’s reviews, portfolio, and social media is the best way to determine the photographer’s quality of work. If all of their images are consistent with each other, it’s a sure fire way to tell how the quality is. Lighting, and editing style can fluctuate with a professional photographer over the course of several years or from studio to outdoor sessions. However, it should not fluctuate from one gallery to the next.

Style and Location

Style and location. Every client has a portrait style they fall in love with! Some Milwaukee photographers use very deep dark tones in their studio work, or subdue all colors into a beige or brown hue. While other’s are bright and airy with their editing style. My professional style of images are definitely on the bright, colorful, and airy side, with a touch of whimsical. I absolutely love using true color within my photography work. When trying to find a photographer for my personal photos, ones that use true colors seem to be very hard to find in this day in age. My studio portraits are done in my Milwaukee studio, in the Bay View neighborhood.

Price Point

Price point with Milwaukee photography goes hand and hand with everything I talked about in this blog post. Depending on a photographer’s professionalism, experience, quality, style and location will determine the photographer’s rates. Those Milwaukee photographers with physical studio locations to provide the upmost experience for their sessions, have much higher costs than photographers who don’t. Overall a photographer who has been in business, and is very experienced will have a higher price point as well. Generally the pricing of a Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Ozaukee photographer is a tell tale sign of a professional photographer, or a photographer who is just starting out. Ever hear of image stacking? Edit this snowflake along with me…

I decided a few weeks ago to pick up my macro lens, that I haven’t used in a while to try out some snowflake shots. ❄️

Not super easy. A lot of patience is required. 😂

I needed some special equipment to photograph these incredibly tiny and delicate snowflakes.

But it was so worth it. 💯

Since macro photography has a very shallow depth of field, it can be hard to get the entire snowflake on the same focal plane without moving it or having it lay completely flat on my surface. Resulting in some post process image stacking! Taking multiple shots with different parts of the snowflake in focus, then essentially stacking the images on top of each other so the entire snowflake is in focus. 🤗

Although this is a very simple tutorial using only 2 images, and the bottom of snowflake isn’t in focus. It gives you a great appreciation for macro photography, and the unseen beauty of winter in Wisconsin! ❄️❄️❄️
