Custom Cake Smash Photography

Celebrating your child’s BIG first birthday requires something a little extra special! Let’s plan this huge milestone with a custom cake smash photography session at my Milwaukee studio! Cake smash sessions at my private studio in Bayview are all created in collaboration with what my client’s vision is. Of course if they have a few colors they’d like, and want me to run with the rest I am very happy to do so! As a cake smash photographer who serves areas of Milwaukee, Racine, Waukesha, and Ozaukee Counties I see a lot of fun ideas and color schemes from my parents who are looking to book their child’s birthday photo session.

Custom Balloons

When booking with me, no two cake smash sessions are the same! From my handmade balloon garlands, to my traditional smash sets, and my new fringe backdrops. They are all unique just like each of my one year olds! This gorgeous cake smash has a variety of custom balloons, that were made by yours truly! That’s right, Hazel’s Mom and I spoke on the phone to discuss details for her custom Milwaukee cake smash. Shades of purples, silvers, and whites were planned. However, after seeing sweet Hazel’s dress I thought it was such a perfect shade of periwinkle! I decided to custom design many of these gorgeous balloon colors to perfectly match her dress. It turned out absolutely stunning! I love how airy and bright the overall look is. Hazel’s Mom requested a floral aspect to tie in the flowers on her dress, so adding these fun big pink flowers was a must!

Ever hear of image stacking? Edit this snowflake along with me…

I decided a few weeks ago to pick up my macro lens, that I haven’t used in a while to try out some snowflake shots. ❄️

Not super easy. A lot of patience is required. 😂

I needed some special equipment to photograph these incredibly tiny and delicate snowflakes.

But it was so worth it. 💯

Since macro photography has a very shallow depth of field, it can be hard to get the entire snowflake on the same focal plane without moving it or having it lay completely flat on my surface. Resulting in some post process image stacking! Taking multiple shots with different parts of the snowflake in focus, then essentially stacking the images on top of each other so the entire snowflake is in focus. 🤗

Although this is a very simple tutorial using only 2 images, and the bottom of snowflake isn’t in focus. It gives you a great appreciation for macro photography, and the unseen beauty of winter in Wisconsin! ❄️❄️❄️

A fun little experiment this morning in the -37 degree weather here in Wisconsin. This happened within about 30 seconds! Yes I have some videos too, but putting together a ton of still images I took was way more fun. ❄️

Not at all client related…. But absolutely worth a permanent spot on my feed!

I was so excited to catch a few shots of this beautiful, elusive snowy owl hanging out in Oak Creek. ❄️These owls come down from the arctic every few years, so it’s pretty rare for it to be hanging around. I had to walk across a frozen field for a slightly closer shot, while giving it lots of space. Of course like a true Wisconsinite I left my house with no hat or gloves in 23 degrees (11 with the wind chill). 😂 It was totally worth the frozen hands!
