Oak Creek High School Photographer

Oak Creek High School Photographer

This past fall I was excited to volunteer as an Oak Creek High School photographer for the football team! The Oak Creek High School football booster club was in need of a photographer for their games. I live in Oak Creek, and have kids within the school district. I thought it would be a great way to give back to the Oak Creek community. I’ve spent years photographing my son’s youth hockey games in the Milwaukee area, which is a very fast paced and difficult sport to photograph. Football is definitely a fast sport, but there is no glass to shoot through or dim lighting conditions. Giving back to the Milwaukee County community that I live in is a really great opportunity!

World of Sports

Being a photographer, means getting exclusive rights to hang out along the sidelines of the Oak Creek High School games. This can be good, and bad at the same time to be honest. It was awesome being close to the action, and getting those fun close up shots. Capturing a fast motion moment and freezing it in time is a pretty amazing thing. However, there were two times I almost got tackled! Not sure whether to laugh or what, but thankfully I got out of the way before the players were nearly in my face haha! Definitely a different world of sports photographing it vs watching in the stands. Check out the compilation of images below from the home games I photographed this past season!

Oak Creek Girls Lacrosse

I’ve also helped out in the past, in this Milwaukee suburb community of Oak Creek! The past two spring seasons of the Oak Creek Girls Lacrosse, I’ve photographed a few of their games as well! These girls are tough as nails, and the beginning of their seasons they are even playing on a snow covered field at the high school! Check out my blog post HERE to view some of those Oak Creek girls lacrosse games! It was awesome to have a few of the girls on the team book me for their gorgeous senior photo sessions as well. You can see one HERE!

Ever hear of image stacking? Edit this snowflake along with me…

I decided a few weeks ago to pick up my macro lens, that I haven’t used in a while to try out some snowflake shots. ❄️

Not super easy. A lot of patience is required. 😂

I needed some special equipment to photograph these incredibly tiny and delicate snowflakes.

But it was so worth it. 💯

Since macro photography has a very shallow depth of field, it can be hard to get the entire snowflake on the same focal plane without moving it or having it lay completely flat on my surface. Resulting in some post process image stacking! Taking multiple shots with different parts of the snowflake in focus, then essentially stacking the images on top of each other so the entire snowflake is in focus. 🤗

Although this is a very simple tutorial using only 2 images, and the bottom of snowflake isn’t in focus. It gives you a great appreciation for macro photography, and the unseen beauty of winter in Wisconsin! ❄️❄️❄️

A fun little experiment this morning in the -37 degree weather here in Wisconsin. This happened within about 30 seconds! Yes I have some videos too, but putting together a ton of still images I took was way more fun. ❄️

WOW. 🤩

Not at all client related…. But absolutely worth a permanent spot on my feed!

I was so excited to catch a few shots of this beautiful, elusive snowy owl hanging out in Oak Creek. ❄️These owls come down from the arctic every few years, so it’s pretty rare for it to be hanging around. I had to walk across a frozen field for a slightly closer shot, while giving it lots of space. Of course like a true Wisconsinite I left my house with no hat or gloves in 23 degrees (11 with the wind chill). 😂 It was totally worth the frozen hands!
