It’s been a while Milwaukee…

Eeeekkk it’s been a while Milwaukee since blogging last…like, a REALLY long while! Sometimes motivation to keep up on my blog just isn’t there. I think most Milwaukee area photographers are like that. Early last year came with some even more challenges when it comes to blogging and keeping up with my website. To make a long story short, my entire website was completely deleted from the internet. Yup, like gone.

Disappointing

I can’t describe how disappointing it was to have endless hours of work on my website just gone. It was gut wrenching to say the least. I worked on my SEO, or search engine optimization for hours over the years to ensure I was found on searches. I was #2 for most photography searches in the Milwaukee area. Showing up in Greendale, Oak Creek, Franklin, Greenfield, and Waukesha searches as well. GoDaddy had hosted my website, which most people have heard of. In December 2021 I receive an email from GoDaddy letting me know they were switching my website and information from the current server which was old, to a new server. Within the email they let me know to back up my website just incase anything doesn’t transfer over fully, but that I didn’t need to do anything else!

Come January 2022 I realized I hadn’t been getting many client inquiries on my contact page. I checked, and my website wasn’t coming up when I went to it. There was an error message. I contacted GoDaddy and they said my site hadn’t transferred over to the new server and it was just blank grey space. Can you say disappointment?! An even bigger disappointment is when I realized the website backups that I had been doing were being saved to the SAME SERVER. GoDaddy was of absolutely no help and basically said there was nothing they could do because the old server had been destroyed. I haven’t been more disappointed with an issue with my business ever before. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that everything was just gone.

Switch My Web Host

Luckily, I decided to switch my web host to a smaller company. I had zero intentions of giving any more of my money to GoDaddy who destroyed my photography website. Thank goodness I decided to make the switch. The tech employee at my new host company was able to recover MOST of my website! He even said, he didn’t have much hope and this was the best work he had done in years. I couldn’t be happier!

Despite having mostly everything restored, things were still a bit jumbled up – and still are to be honest. Some blog posts don’t have images attached any longer. Some links are sort of ..well a dead end. So, if you notice a few funny things on my website not quite working you now know the the whole reason why! I have spent a long time updating all of my gorgeous portfolio galleries however, that you can find HERE! And I promise Milwaukee to start blogging more of my beautiful sessions. Showing off all of my amazing client’s again! In the mean time hop on over to my Instagram page, or Facebook page to see my recent work within days of my sessions!
