First Photos | Newborn

When families choose me to take their first photos for their newborn at my Milwaukee studio I’m always so honored. Putting trust in my newborn photography with high quality images, as well as prioritizing safety with your baby isn’t something I take lightly. There are a vast number of Milwaukee newborn photographers, and choosing me is very flattering.

Sweet Newborn Girl

What a sweet newborn girl from months past. Mom and Dad were such naturals when it came to posing, especially for their first photos as a family. Their daughter was a perfect model just the same. I absolutely love the family shots and that adorable photograph of Mom and baby as well. Really seeing the love in Mom’s eyes is what really shines through in the shot. Baby girl was so great for her newborn pictures I got to photograph her with quite a few props. Including my moon newborn prop that I haven’t used in quite some time. Not only did we have her laying on her back for a shot or two, we were even able to flip her over and put baby on her tummy as well!

Favorite Newborn Photo

Another favorite newborn photo from this session is with baby and her eyes wide open! Usually at some point during my newborn photo shoots the baby tends to wake up. Sometimes they go right back to sleep after eating, and others they stay awake! I try to get a few pictures with babies eyes open, and it tends to be a client favorite!

Ever hear of image stacking? Edit this snowflake along with me…

I decided a few weeks ago to pick up my macro lens, that I haven’t used in a while to try out some snowflake shots. ❄️

Not super easy. A lot of patience is required. 😂

I needed some special equipment to photograph these incredibly tiny and delicate snowflakes.

But it was so worth it. 💯

Since macro photography has a very shallow depth of field, it can be hard to get the entire snowflake on the same focal plane without moving it or having it lay completely flat on my surface. Resulting in some post process image stacking! Taking multiple shots with different parts of the snowflake in focus, then essentially stacking the images on top of each other so the entire snowflake is in focus. 🤗

Although this is a very simple tutorial using only 2 images, and the bottom of snowflake isn’t in focus. It gives you a great appreciation for macro photography, and the unseen beauty of winter in Wisconsin! ❄️❄️❄️

A fun little experiment this morning in the -37 degree weather here in Wisconsin. This happened within about 30 seconds! Yes I have some videos too, but putting together a ton of still images I took was way more fun. ❄️

WOW. 🤩

Not at all client related…. But absolutely worth a permanent spot on my feed!

I was so excited to catch a few shots of this beautiful, elusive snowy owl hanging out in Oak Creek. ❄️These owls come down from the arctic every few years, so it’s pretty rare for it to be hanging around. I had to walk across a frozen field for a slightly closer shot, while giving it lots of space. Of course like a true Wisconsinite I left my house with no hat or gloves in 23 degrees (11 with the wind chill). 😂 It was totally worth the frozen hands!
