Best Photographer in Kenosha

TOP 3!!! Soooooooo…… the results came out for the Kenosha County Best of 2014 contest!! A HUGE HUGE thank you to ALL you amazing fans across Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee and even down into Illionis and out to California who voted for me! I was in the top 3 best photographer in kenosha!! I was so flattered to even be nominated, which I realized well into the contest that it was a super sweet friend of mine who nominated me. But to be in the top 3, and see my business listed in the Kenosha News was FANTASTIC!!!  It was so great to be recognized as one of the BEST photographers in Kenosha County. How COOL! I didn’t even realize I was on the list until about 4 days into the contest. So next year, I will be checking the first day of the Kenosha’s Best contest.

As many of you know I moved to Kenosha from San Diego about 3 years ago due to my husband’s Navy relocation. It was hard moving my business from an amazing, gorgeous city where I was building my client base to Kenosha where I just about had to start over. Being from the Milwaukee area I had quite a few people interested in my business from the start, but it was still a HUGE change and re-building clients is not an easy thing to do. Plus just having an indoor spot to do photos during the cold months was a big adjustment. Everyone in San Diego wants beach photos, which I totally miss doing out there! I’m so blessed to have a perfect spot inside my home where I can photograph my amazing clients month after month.

So anyways… Just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU! To all my amazing clients, fans, family, and friends. I couldn’t be doing what I love without all of you! “The biggest compliment you could give to a photographer is to book them.” It is SO true! All of your votes, “likes” on Facebook, comments, shares, and referrals are all such huge compliments and I SO appreciate each and every one. 🙂

Ever hear of image stacking? Edit this snowflake along with me…

I decided a few weeks ago to pick up my macro lens, that I haven’t used in a while to try out some snowflake shots. ❄️

Not super easy. A lot of patience is required. 😂

I needed some special equipment to photograph these incredibly tiny and delicate snowflakes.

But it was so worth it. 💯

Since macro photography has a very shallow depth of field, it can be hard to get the entire snowflake on the same focal plane without moving it or having it lay completely flat on my surface. Resulting in some post process image stacking! Taking multiple shots with different parts of the snowflake in focus, then essentially stacking the images on top of each other so the entire snowflake is in focus. 🤗

Although this is a very simple tutorial using only 2 images, and the bottom of snowflake isn’t in focus. It gives you a great appreciation for macro photography, and the unseen beauty of winter in Wisconsin! ❄️❄️❄️

A fun little experiment this morning in the -37 degree weather here in Wisconsin. This happened within about 30 seconds! Yes I have some videos too, but putting together a ton of still images I took was way more fun. ❄️

WOW. 🤩

Not at all client related…. But absolutely worth a permanent spot on my feed!

I was so excited to catch a few shots of this beautiful, elusive snowy owl hanging out in Oak Creek. ❄️These owls come down from the arctic every few years, so it’s pretty rare for it to be hanging around. I had to walk across a frozen field for a slightly closer shot, while giving it lots of space. Of course like a true Wisconsinite I left my house with no hat or gloves in 23 degrees (11 with the wind chill). 😂 It was totally worth the frozen hands!
