What to expect at your newborn session…
What to expect at your newborn session is so important! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions after reviewing my newborn session prep guide!
All of my newborn sessions are done in my beautiful studio in Milwaukee, in the Bayview neighborhood. My studio address is 2790 S. Fulton St. Milwaukee. The studio has a client seating area, as well as light refreshments for children and parents. Water, soda, and juice boxes, and crackers just to name a few.
Newborn sessions can last anywhere between 1.5-2.5 hours depending on how cooperative baby is.
If requested, I start with family and sibling shots first. Then, I move onto prop style of set ups. Last, I finish the session with bean bag poses. Bean bag poses are my very simple poses where baby is on top of a colored fabric.
The studio will be kept warmer around 72 degrees. I will also be using a blowing heater in my newborn room to keep baby warm and sleepy.
A white noise machine is used the entire session to help baby stay calm and content.
After reviewing your questionnaire, I will have wraps, hats, outfits, and props all set and ready to go in the color choices you prefer. Everything will be set up so your newborn session goes smoothly!
Preparing and session tips…
Before the session try your best to keep baby awake for an hour or more. Try giving baby a bath. Not necessarly to get him/her clean, but more to wake your little one up! That way hopefully your newborn sleeps for the session.
Feed your baby right before coming to your newborn session.
Keeping your baby warm with a full belly is KEY to those sleepy posed images. Be prepared to feed your little one during the session! If your newborn won’t sleep or is unsettled I will ask for you to feed.
If you breastfeed and are more comfortable with a cover up feel free to bring one. I don’t have a seperate space for nursing moms. If you bottle feed please bring MORE than what you think your little one will eat.
Bring a pacifier even if your baby isn’t using one! This helps to calm unsettled babies while they are being posed. Please refrain from bringing pacifiers that have small stuffed animals attached! The stuffed animals get in the way of posing.
Bring any specific snacks or drinks you might like during your session, that I may not have in studio.
Please double check you bring ANY AND ALL outfit pieces, accessories, or props wanted for your session. The short session time does NOT allow any wiggle room for clients to leave the studio to shop for, or pick up any items left at home.
Siblings And Extra Helpers…
Clients with other young children sometimes drive to the studio seperately. This way after family and sibling shots are done, one parent and younger children don’t necessarly have to hang out while solo newborn shots are taken. *This is only an idea, by NO means do your family members need to leave the studio*
To keep the distraction level to a minimum, only ONE additional person is allowed to come and help with client’s session unless previously discussed. I do ask to inform me ahead of time who you plan to bring. To keep distractions down the helper must come at the beginning of the session time as stated on the contract.
