Cake Smash Prep Guide
I can’t wait to work with you for your one year old’s cake smash session at my Milwaukee studio! I’ve put together a cake smash prep guide with some important reminders, as well as a few tips and tricks! Please read over all of the information listed below, and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out!
Studio Reminders
- My studio is located at 2790 S. Fulton St. Milwaukee. This is a one way residential street, off of Kinnikinnick Ave. Since it’s one way, feel free to park on either side of the street.
- Your session will be 30 minutes in length, and starts promptly at the time discussed via email and on your contract. Please be on time, if you are running more than 5 minutes late contact me.
- Please remove your shoes when coming into my studio, this is to help keep the paper flooring for the cake smash photos clean of shoe prints. Parents help to put child back in front of backdrop if they crawl or walk away.
- 10 Image standard resolution digital collection fee + tax will be due at the session. I accept card or check.
What To Bring To Your Cake Smash Session
- Please bring all outfit pieces, and if there is anything else you wish to incorporate previously discussed via email. Due to the short cake smash session, there isn’t any time to run to a store or home to pick up any items.
- Bring treats for your child! Putting small puffs or cheerios on the back side of the cake helps to warm the child up to touching the cake if need be. A cup is a great idea as well.
- Extra wipes, and an extra outfit is a must! Afterwards one year olds are very messy, you will want to bring your child home in a clean outfit after wiping them off!
- Favorite stuffed animal might help to make them comfortable, or even their favorite song is great to have ready on parent’s phones.
New Experience
- Please remember, this is a NEW experience and environment for your one year old. Although adults know what the child is “supposed” to do, your one year old might not. Children can be very serious and a bit shy during their session. This is completely normal. I do as much as I can to get giggles and smiles. If a child is content, sits, and looks at the camera, this is a successful cake smash!
- I will be the one to interact with your child, while a parent stays close by or even sits right next to me! This is so your child is looking at the camera. If too many adults are making noises, (especially standing off to the side away from me) the child will get distracted and not know where to look.
- Parents sometimes get frosting on their clothing as well! Don’t wear your favorite outfit.
- No more than 1 additional adult “helper” in the studio. This is to cut down on distraction for the child.
- Out of respect to other tenants in the building, please refrain from making excessively loud noises to get your child to “look” during their cake smash. No shouting, yelling, or screaming to get the child’s attention. This doesn’t help any more than playing their favorite song, or calmly interacting with the child. It can sometimes even scare them.
